Trimester 3 - Lesson 4 & 5 - Contraception assignment

You are to produce a brochure aimed at young people. This brochure is to include one or various forms of contraception. This could be to be specific to Luxembourg (Is there a family planning clinic equivalent, how much does this form of contraception cost, laws)

You must choose from the below one form of contraception that you will be promoting:

  • Abstinence
  • Birth control pill
  • Birth control patch
  • IUD
  • Condom 
  • Femdom
When researching your form of contraception, you must think and address the following issues:
  • What is the method?
  • How does the method work?
  • How effective is this method at protecting against pregnancy/STI's?
  • What are the advantages/disadvantages of this method?
  • How and where would a person access this method within the community?
  • Do you need a prescription?
  • How much does it cost (roughly)?
  • Why would adolescents use/not use this method?
You will have 2 lessons to complete this form/poster so please take time to plan it and choose wisely. You will find that some methods have more information that others so choose wisely.

Today we will be watching a documentary called 'Raging Teens'. This is based on the trials and tribulations of students your age as they go through puberty. As the video moves forward please answer the questions below. If you have not answered the questions by the end of the lesson then please catch up on the link below:

Birth Control Pre-test
With the person next to you, but without GOOGLE, please answer the following questions with either T (true), F (false), U (unsure)

1. Feminine hygiene products may be used as a contraceptive method.
2. A woman can become pregnant without having sexual intercourse.
3. Withdrawal is considered to be an effective contraception method.
4. Using both a condom and the pill is considered to be a very effective contraceptive method.
5. Douching (washing out the vaginal canal with a water solution) is not a good method of birth control.
6. A female must have an orgasm to become pregnant.
7. The IUD is recommended for any woman.
8. A condom and diaphragm are the same.
9. The pill must be prescribed by a doctor.
10. The most effective method for preventing the spread of an STI is a condom.
11. On average, pregnancy in teens results in more health problems than taking the pill.
12. After ejaculation, sperm may live longer than 48 hours.
13. If a woman missed taking the pill, she should use some other form of contraceptive, like a condom for the rest of that month with the pill.
14. A woman is safe from pregnancy if sexual intercourse occurs during menstruation.

        On your own, you are to design a poster/leaflet based on one of these themes:

  • The dangers of Drug use/abuse
  • The dangers of Alcohol use/abuse
